It's now day 23 - Total miles 728.99 and yesterday's mileage was 46.2 - to the campsite at Wigmore (fishing) lakes near Shrewsbury.
Yesterday I remember rolling hills and massive, verdant oak trees. I didn't take photos of any (or maybe one or two) but I admired plenty. High hedges are beautiful, but obscure views. Today's riding on NCR 44 was beautiful too. undulating quiet lanes (with grass in the middle) and stunning views. I've seen lots of red kites today - at least half a dozen. Also a couple of buzzards (normal buzzards - the kind I'm familiar with, not a 'honey buzzard', like I spotted in Scotland). Getting nearer home now. I'm staying with friends until Monday - when I'll leave Bristol and head down the northern coast of the South West.
The Honey Buzzard reminds me of Louise's story about the rhode Island red chook! I saw something in the road ahead (this was three days ago, or so) - and thought "that looks like a chicken!" - as I got closer, I realised it was a MacDonald's take away brown paper bag rolling around in the breeze!
Suie and Dickie's house has grown since I last saw it 25yrs ago: The last addition was the conservatory - a suntrap in the morning. Suie did the woodwork and Dickie did the metal work - like the rest of their house in the woods on a hillside (not far off Offa's Dyke trail) it's gorgeous.
I was treated to a fish supper... Bryn the lurcher helped finish off Mabli's bones (she'd eaten most at tge campsite). A lovely (cycling) butcher had given me them free on the way to Wigmore Lakes. Or maybe Bryn buried his.
Suie and her friend Lindy zoomed off to Devon (after Suzanne saw to the horses) for a life celebration of someone I hadn't realised had died - lots of mutual friends gathering this afternoon and my thoughts are with them.
I'm so tired! I'm going to have a bath and go to bed. The rest of the household have gone out to see a band (and African dub).
I actually fell asleep in the tub.
