Sunday 4th September Chios.

Dawn.  The sun rose with a pink blush then a golden smile right opposite the flapping door of my tent.  It was a minor miracle that the tent had stayed up all night – though a few corners of the tarp had escaped their tethers.  Noone bothered me, if they even saw me.

I enjoyed an early morning swim, and was joined by several other early morning swimmers who just had a quick dip.  I discovered that the fishes like playing “Grandma’s footsteps” – I would kick up the algae off the rocks and they would follow to harvest the best.  So I’d think there were no fish – but, if I turned around quickly, there they’d all be – a shoal of them – all different types, following me closely.  It’s not easy to laugh under water with a snorkel mask on –one gets a mouthful of salt water.

The shower afterwards was bliss and I can’t fault the changing facilities.    Breakfast was left over pizza, scrumped grapes, squished banana, a cup of coffee and digestive biscuits – real McVities!  Plus a slice of left over stale bread adorned with nutella.  I was stuffed.

I cycled around and found a café bar where I could have a mammoth session blogging happily.  Only problem was that they had some kind of censor on their wifi which only allowed access to facebook and google – no other sites.  I don’t know how they did that, but they did.  Stringent parental controls obviously.  Still – got FB blog up to date.  (Discovered since it’s probably something to do with the Macbook and the way it works and nothing to do with the bar).  Went swimming again and then looking for a new campsite in the opposite direction on a different beach.

This camp was behind what looked like an old wartime observatory – one of those cement things with slots for soldiers to poke their guns out.  Again I did battle with the wind – and again the tent stayed up all night and I slept well.
Once more I found a shower and dressing room on site.
Is this getting monotonous?
